Russian ruble falls to record low of 72.4 vs US dollar on weak oil

MOSCOW, Dec 28 (PRIME) -- The Russian ruble decreased to 72.423 against the U.S. dollar at 1:20 p.m. Moscow time on Monday, a new record low of 2015, while Brent price contracted to below $37.2 per barrel, as seen by PRIME in data of the Moscow Exchange and the ICE trading platform.

Earlier in the day, the ruble tested 72.467 against the dollar. The ruble fell to 79.467 against the euro at 1:20 p.m. Moscow time.

High demand for foreign currency in thin trade ahead of New Year and Orthodox Christmas holidays and on the back of low liquidity put the national currency under additional pressure.
